Kim
Practice Manager

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I'm Kim, the Practice Manager here at OSN. I love helping Mel bring her visions to life, supporting our team and the families we work with. I have three gorgeous kids,
2 dogs and 2 cats.

What first inspired you to pursue a career in allied health
and why do you still love it today?

I fell into it really! But (even though my actual life is chaos), I have always loved organising, planning and bringing people's ideas to life. I also think it's so important to create spaces where children and their families feel supported and heard, knowing first-hand how hard it can be to find the right support for our kids.
So I am grateful to be able to be part of a team who have created
such a warm and supportive space.

If someone was just starting out in allied health
what’s the best advice you’d give them?

Follow your passion because it shines through in everything you do

If you could shadow another healthcare professional for a day
who would it be and why?

I'd love to shadow a Speech Therapist. My younger sister has a speech disorder, and did a lot of speech therapy— I've always been so fascinated by what they do.

How do you stay balanced and regulate yourself?

I don't 😂 Music is my biggest regulator, patting my animals, as well as getting outside feeling the sun on my face and keeping my feet warm— possibly all at once!

What do you do for fun?

I spend most of my time with my kids. We love having movie nights and playing card/board games or going exploring. In summer, we spend a lot of time at the beach. I love to dance, go to art galleries and the theatre, but my first and always love is Reading— "A reader lives a thousand lives" George R.R Martin.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

My absolute dream is to write a novel. But I also love being part of Our Sensory Nest, so hopefully I will have been able to help Our Sensory Nest become
everything we dreamt it to be, and I've had time to write.

What are you currently studying or planning to study?

I am currently studying an Associate Degree of Arts, which is very
thought-provoking and feeds my literary soul

What’s your favorite movie and why?

I don't know if I could ever choose just one. My favourite kids' movie is probably Matilda (1996). I always felt like I didn't belong as a kid, and I loved books so much, the character spoke to me in so many ways, plus— Magic!

How do you handle situations when a child is experiencing strong
emotions and is in the red zone?

Make sure they have a safe space, talk as little as possible unless they would like me to talk to them. Provide things that can help regulate them
(not forcing anything upon them, but making sure it's there if they need)
and stay close for when/if they need me

And just for fun – tell us a joke!

What did the shark say when he ate the clownfish?
This tastes a little funny!
